Chicago Paper Models
Chicago is where the skyscraper began. Two of its best-known towers are ready to build.
Architecture in Chicago
The first steel-framed high-rise went up in Chicago in 1885, and the city has kept building upward since. The Willis Tower, called the Sears Tower for most of its life, was the tallest building in the world for 25 years. 875 North Michigan is still widely known as the John Hancock Center.
What to watch out for when building
The Willis Tower is a bundle of nine square tubes of different heights, so work from the tallest down and let each tube dry before adding the next. 875 North Michigan leans inward on all four sides, which is easier than it looks once the base is square.

875 North Michigan
One of Chicago’s most famous skyscrapers and by many people still called John Hancock Center. This skyscraper features a public observation deck called 360 Chicago.

Willis Tower
Willis Tower is an iconic office skyscraper and home to more than 100 companies. The building is third tallest high-rise building of the United States and features as a publicly accessible viewing platform.
